Metal garages come in a range of sizes and vary drastically based on each owner’s needs and requirements. Choosing the right garage size depends on what the owner uses the garage for, how many vehicles they might own, or if they need extra storage space.
If you’re planning on using the space to park your car and store large, bulky items that you rarely use, then it’s best to get a metal garage that’s bigger than the standard one-car garage size.
While it’s normal for most buyers to place importance on the width and length of the garage as it constitutes the square area of the space, the height is also critical. Most garages should be at least 7 feet high to accommodate garage doors and windows.
One-car Garage
The standard one-car garage size would be around 12 feet in width, 20 to 24 feet in length, and 8 feet in height.
Two-car Garage
Two-car garage dimensions are the most popular size, and there are many options available. Typically, they measure 18 to 20 feet in width, 20 to 24 feet in length, and 8 feet in height.
Three-car Garage
A three-car garage often comes with a double-width door and a single-car door. The size is usually 26 to 28 feet in width, 20 to 24 feet in length, with the single door having a width of 8 feet and the double door having a width of 16 feet.
Other Features of a Standard Garage
There are three types of roofs for detached metal garages: regular roof, A-frame horizontal roof, and an A-framed vertical roof. A-frame vertical roofs cost more as they require extra reinforcement during the installation process. However, A-frame roofs are great as they do not have to undergo regular maintenance or upkeep to keep them functional.
Metal garages are customizable not only in terms of size and types of roof but also with regards to the colors and the number and types of doors and windows. You can pick from whatever shades available to create an aesthetically pleasing façade for your garage. You might wonder why it’s necessary to add windows to your garage as it may pose a security risk but if you’re using it for anything other than car storage, then windows will allow for natural light to enter the space.
Uses of a Standard Garage
Garages don’t just shield your cars from the elements, you can also utilize them as storage spaces. If your garage can fit your car and unused items comfortably and you still have some space leftover, there are many ways that you can make the most out of your garage. They are multi-functional structures and you can use them to house your plants that you can’t grow outdoors, convert the extra space into a gym area to keep fit, or even create a small home office away from the distractions of your living area. The space is flexible and can be easily converted to whatever best suits your needs and lifestyle.
